Old Business:

·        Parish Council Elections

After much discussion it was moved by Mike Branson, seconded by Rose Wilkinson that the number of members on the Parish Council be increased from six to eight.  Six will come from parish membership and two from the student membership. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Todd Hagen and seconded by Bob Lambert, that elections for Parish Council be held on October 5, 2003.  The purpose of this election is to elect two additional council members from the parish membership and two student members.

·        Religious Education

Bob Wilson, the new Director of Religious Education, was introduced to the council.  Mr. Wilson gave a report on his goals and objectives for Religious Education.  Some of the programs he is looking at include quarterly religious education classes for parents while the children are in CCD, classes during the day for parishioners, video programs, young mothers program, and working closely with RCIA.  Mr. Wilson summed up his report by saying that Religious Educations is for everyone and that he is planning on having programs that outreach to everyone in the parish.

·        Sunday Bulletin

Sarah reported that the people selling the advertising on the bulletin are not having much luck.  The main problem is that people interested in the advertising do not want to support just one of the parishes.  After further discussion the Parish Council directed Father Ken to approach St. Francis about the possibility of having one bulletin for both parishes.

·        Applications for New Business Manager

We have advertised in the Sunday bulletin for the last two weeks for applications for a replacement for Sarah, who will be leaving us in October.  Sarah said to date we have not received any applications but it is still early.  Father suggested that the council members visit with members of the parish that might be interested.  Should we have no applications by the end of August the possibility of advertising in other publications was discussed.

New Business:

·        Wedding Rules and Regulations

It was brought to the attention of the Parish Council that there is a need for the parish to have guidelines for weddings.  The purpose of the guidelines would be to inform people planning weddings of the division of responsibilities between them and the parish.  There was additional discussion on the possibility of charging for the use of the church for weddings.  Father stated that normally members of the parish are not charged and that non-parishioners are.  The council decided to appoint Irene McKelvey, to head up a committee to come up with purposed rules and regulation and present them to the Parish Council at the next meeting.

Being no future new business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 with a closing prayer.

Next Parish Council Meeting is scheduled for September 16, 2003.
